A Facial hair transplant treatment or Beard transplant is a procedure that restores hair to areas where facial hair growth is missing or thin. While this procedure is most commonly performed on the goatee and mustache areas, it can also be performed on beards, cheeks, or even just sideburns. Facial hair transplants are usually used to give a more masculine-looking appearance and can also be used to conceal acne scars or other types of scars. Certain people have genetic issues and cannot grow full or thick beards, but this is easily fixed in just a few hours.

The new facial hair typically grows like normal facial hair although it may be a little softer depending on how long you let it grow. The texture and other characteristics of the hair follicle, once grown back can be groomed, shaved colored, or allowed to grow to any length. Once transplanted, the new facial hairs are permanent.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia with an oral sedative. The Beard Restoration takes roughly takes 3 to 5 hours depending on the number of grafts harvested. The first few days after the procedure there will be tiny crusts or scabs around each transplanted hair. By the next day, patients are to able resume non-strenuous activities. The transplanted hairs will begin to fall out at around 12 days, and then start to regrow at 3-4 months. However, this can vary from patient to patient. Once it starts growing it continues for the rest of your life.

We are very cautious that Male Pattern baldness does not run in the patient’s family, because you usually do not want to use your donor for facial hair when you may need it to reverse baldness on your head later in your life. You only have so many donors and you want to use them wisely. We work closely for and with our patients in this way. While not very common, some patients may require a second procedure to transplant additional grafts if they desire a very thick density.

An eyebrow hair transplant procedure usually takes 3-4 hours. Eyebrow transplantation is an in-office procedure performed under local anesthesia. You will not require general anesthesia. Pain and discomfort will be managed with medication so you can relax. Discomfort is usually minimal, and many patients will sleep, listen to music, or watch television during the procedure.

Your natural hair is removed from the back of your scalp using the Follicular Unit Extraction (F.U.E) method. You will not experience gaps or bald areas, and there will not be any noticeable difference after the hair is removed.

Newly grafted hair applied to your new eyebrows is expected to continue growing once transplanted, as such they will need to be trimmed regularly. The newly transplanted hair will go into a dormant stage before it starts growing, and then when it starts in 3 to 4 months it continues to grow forever.

You will see the results immediately after an eyebrow transplant procedure. Mild redness, minimal swelling, crusting, or tiny scabs around each follicle can be expected where the hair grafts were placed, and this usually resolves after a few days to a week. Depending on your comfort level, many patients can return to work and social activity the next day. Though we advise against certain activities such as heavy lifting or working out for about a week.
